ECB President Hawkish Comments Strengthen Euro Against Other ...
(RTTNews) - The Euro remained strong against other major currencies Thursday in New York trading. This came as the European Central Bank held interest rates at 2.75%. However, hawkish comments by ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet caused speculation that the central bank may soon lift rates more aggressively than anticipated. The European currency advanced against its U.S. counterpart throughout much of the day. The Euro showed early gains against the greenback amid the release of German factory order data. The pair pushed up further following Trichet's remarks and weaker-than-expected U.S. ISM non-manufacturing data. As of 2:25 pm ET, the Euro was worth 1.2775 dollars. Meanwhile, the Euro remained range-bound against the Swiss franc. The European currency made early advances against its Swiss counterpart in the small morning hours.
Emerging Asia FX-Rupiah rallies after rate cut
SINGAPORE, July 6 (Reuters) - The Indonesian rupiah trimmed early losses on Thursday after the central bank cut interest rates and signalled further aggressive cuts, with traders expecting heavy foreign investment into a rallying bond market. Other Asian currencies remained weak as investors sold the yen ahead of a European Central Bank (ECB) meeting later in the day and U.S. jobs data this week, while regional stock markets stayed in negative territory. Most of these currencies had dropped on Wednesday after a missile launch by North Korea had ratcheted up geopolitical tensions. The rupiah had fallen as far as 9,175 per dollar, about 1.4 percent lower than Wednesday's high, in early deals. It rallied to levels around 9,120 after Bank Indonesia cut the benchmark one-month rate by 25 basis points to 12.25 percent and said it could cut rates more aggressively if economic conditions warranted such easing.
'Prada' movie spotlights nasty boss phenom
In this undated photo provided by 20th Century Fox, shows Meryl Streep, playing Miranda Priestly, a capricious and fear-inspiring fashion editor, in the new film,'The Devil Wears Prada.' (AP Photo/20th Century Fox) A famous designer throws a fit and hurls a pair of scissors at his assistant. The ladies room at a top fashion glossy is routinely filled with weeping underlings who've been dressed down. One boss enforces a starvation regime: You can't go out for lunch, but you can't eat at your desk, either. These could be scenes from "The Devil Wears Prada," the new film starring Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, a capricious and fear-inspiring fashion editor. But they're actual anecdotes from the fashion world. Insiders agree that the depiction of scary-boss excess in the film, and even more in the book, is dead-on.

Aventurine, the Greek software company that absorbed the original developer Razorwax, has announced that their upcoming MMORPG, Darkfall, is now in preparation for beta testing. Like other MMORPG's, Darkfall is set on a fantasy world (in this case, Agon), and features the usual cast of playable races - Humans, Dwarves, Elves and Orks. There are two additional races - one of werewolves called the Mahirim, and the other known as the Alfar - pale outcasts who reject all outsiders. Career paths include explorer, hunter, mercenary, ironsmith, magician and fishermen; there is also a "prestige" class system that include Paladin, Assassin, Gladiator and Enchanter. What makes Darkfall different is its emphasis on PvP combat. According to Associate Producer Tasos Flambouras, old classics such as Ultima Online and Elder Scrolls were enjoyable, but restrictive in their use of classes and levels.
Forex - Dollar well-bid amid speculation of strong US labour ...
LONDON (AFX) - The dollar was well bid amid speculation that the crucial US labour market report due Friday will come in strong, in turn boosting expectations of an August rate hike. 'Expectations that a robust US employment report will ensure an August rate hike and renewed pressure on emerging market currencies and equities have created a more dollar supportive backdrop,' said Steve Pearson, chief currency strategist at HBOS. Yesterday the forecast from ADP Employer Services indicated that US companies added some 368,000 jobs in June. The robust ADP data pushed up expectations for the non-farm payrolls figure to above 200,000 from 160,000. In May only 75,000 jobs were created. 'Should this upbeat estimate be reflected in an equally strong print for tomorrow's labour payrolls release, then it is possible that any conclusions pertaining to the resumption of the dollar long-term downtrend may have to be temporarily postponed once more,' said Neil Mellor at the Bank of New York.
